Departments to fill vacant posts

17 Mar 2020

Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Kabo Morwaeng says departments of Information and Broadcasting are currently facilitating filling of the available 59 vacant posts through appointments and promotions.

Responding to a question in Parliament on March 16,  Mr Morwaeng said the posts had remained vacant in the two departments for varying periods, as far as two years to two months and as recent as 28 days.

The vacant posts stand as follows: 4 at E-band, 18 at D-band, 22 at C-band, 11 at B-band and 4 at A-band.

Mr Morwaeng further said the number of officers who had not been able to progress for more than five years was 125.

He stated that reasons for the delays in progression vary, noting that in some cases officers who were employed with diploma qualifications needed to acquire degree qualifications before they could progress to higher positions.

“The ministry continues to engage internally to fill up the vacancies through both promotions and appointments,” he said.

The Member of Parliament for Palapye, Mr Onneetse Ramogapi had asked the minister to update Parliament on the number of vacant posts at Information and Broadcasting Departments from the lowest grade up to management level.

Mr Ramogapi also wanted to know how long the posts had remained vacant and when they would be filled, how many employees had not been promoted or progressed in the last five years and what the ministry was doing to address the above challenges. Ends
