Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) is working round the clock to build a formidable squad that will participate in the forthcoming Africa Union Sport Council (AUSC Region 5) championships.
The tournament, scheduled for South Africa in July, carries an International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) ranking system and teams from the region are expected to take part.
Speaking on the sidelines of the third round of the four tournaments lined up for the national team selection, BTTA additional member, Sedireng Tapa said two players from both men and women sides have made it into the national team, and that the other four would join the four who were selected after a tournament on Saturday at Botswana National Youth Centre (BNYC).
Tapa said they were impressed by the players performance and were looking forward to the fourth and last round to be played on April 18.
From the ladies side, Olorato Ramagapu (Smash Maniacs Club) and Tshepiso Rebatenne (Nhabe Club) made the cut while the men who qualified are Tshenolo Mooketsi (BDF Club) and Sean Dekop (Nhabe Club).
In the last tournament played in Lesotho, the Botswana national team came second after the regional powerhouse, South Africa.
They trailed behind South Africa in the women’s team, men’s team, mixed doubles and doubles. Mooketsi and Matlhatsi won silver in the men’ doubles. Ends
