16 Mar 2020
Botswana Nurse’s Union (BONU), acting president Mr Mosimanegape Nsangwa has called for sufficient supply of protective clothing to ensure nurses are not infected by Covid-19 in their line of duty.
Mr Nsangwa made the remarks during the activation of nurse’s day and launch of Florence Nightingale lamp in Maun recently.
He noted that over 3 000 nurses worldwide had already been infected by the Covid-19 while some had died.
He said training on infection control measures was critical for local nurses. On other matters, the BONU acting president observed that the nursing fraternity still faced challenges of shortage of staff houses, shortage of staff, shortage of medical supply and extended working hours.
In his remarks, the Member of Parliament for Maun West Mr Dumelang Saleshando challenged the government to ensure the provision of hand sanitizers in public places to curb the spread of Covid-19.
He also called for the need for sufficient water supply in villages that were currently experiencing water shortage.
This he said should be guided by WHO guidelines on precautionary measures which place emphasis on cleaning hands often using soap and water in the absence of alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Ends
