Mosweu passionate about the art of confectionery

It is not often that someone leaves a career that promises to reap financial rewards and status like engineering to pursue cake decorating.

Most have been conditioned by their parents and of course society to chase money instead of passion.

Such has been ingrained in the minds of many, so much so that many people remain stuck in jobs that are emotionally draining, but financially rewarding.

With the rate of unemployment in the country, one is deemed lucky if they manage to land a job.

Born into a family of bakers, it is no mystery that Mr Lebogang Mosweu too is passionate about the art of confectionery.

A Kanye native, Mr Mosweu spent his idyllic childhood years with his mother, Ms Kgomotso Ramogerita learning the ropes.

“My mother was a professional baker who operated her own bakery and she made sure that all her children were involved in the business.

My inspiration and desire for baked goods grew from there,” he said.

As the years passed, Mr Mosweu realised he had a knack for Mathematics and decided to enroll for an Advanced Diploma in Construction Engineering after completing his BGCSE.

His free time was spent in his mother’s bakery store, curating and creating beautiful works of art on various baked goods.

Clearly he was stung by the baking bug and with support from his mother, Mahuta Cake Studio came into being.

“I hung up my engineering coat for a baker’s hat.

To many it seemed as if I had lost my mind for not practicing what I studied for, but I truly believe I was born to do this, it is my passion and I have not looked back ever since,” he stated.

He admits that since the inception of his cake studio in 2019, there had been challenges such as clients not paying on time and occasionally disappearing without paying the full amount.

However, like in any business, patience is a virtue.

His biggest highlight thus far is how swiftly his cake decorating business has grown and enjoys support from people as far as Ghanzi, proving that his efforts are not in vain.

His impressive artistry, passion and sheer determination, he said, set him apart from his competitors.

“I was born to do this, I have the magic touch and the fact that I create my own flavours makes me a trend setter,” he said.

Mr Mosweu in the future plans to expand his studio into a fully-fledged confectionery store that offers cake decorating and mentorship classes to children and youth.

Asked what government could do to encourage entrepreneurship and independence, he said he wished for government to include vocational courses in the curriculum, starting from primary schools to develop talent from a young age.

“I feel I wasted years learning something that I am not passionate about, but rest assured I am taking over the world,” he said. Ends
