LKC pupils donate to Gakuto pensioners

A group of Livingstone Kolobeng College (LKC) pupils recently donated toiletry, cups and beverages to 100 pensioners in Gakuto.
The donation was handed over to Unique Association chairperson and founder, Ms Maggie Mathumo by Ms Chantelle Maganu, the pupils’ group leader.
Ms Mathumo explained that Unique Association was a non-profitable organisation established in 2014 with the aim of taking care of the elderly in and around Gakuto.
The organisation, which relied on donations, she said, was sustained by its main sponsor, Spar Supermarket through provision of monthly snacks for pensioners.
For her part, Ms Maganu said they had tasked each member of the community service club to raise at least P5, which enabled them to make regular cake selling.
“I was able to identify the need at Gakuto through Botswana Television news and I felt compelled to sell the idea to fellow group members,” Ms Maganu said.
And, the area councillor, Mr Mathata Selaledi thanked the pupils for assisting the elderly in Gakuto while there were similar needs in various parts of the country.
Mr Selaledi also thanked LKC management for having encouraged pupils to participate in projects that touched lives of the needy in society.
“We need to also encourage our children to take responsibility in contributing to nation building because such initiatives help build confidence amongst children and also encourage them to become models to others,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lentsweletau/Mmopane constituency administrative secretary, Mr Masego Thantshane encouraged that similar privilege be extended to other areas within the constituency where there was dire need. ENDs
