Kgosi Sinvula of Kavimba steps down

15 Mar 2020

Kgosi Moffat Sinvula of Kavimba in the Chobe District is stepping down from the chieftainship after being at the helm for more than 50 years.

Kgosi Sinvula, a specially elected member of the fourth Ntlo ya Dikgosi session, recently made the announcement in a kgotla meeting.

Kgosi Sinvula confirmed in an interview that he would hand-over the baton to his eldest son, Mr Lawrence Sinvula, as per the Basubiya tradition and custom. He, however, said actual dates of his stepping down were subject to resignation of the heir-apparent,  who is currently working as a teacher at Lesoma Primary School.

Kgosi Sinvula (81) said old age was the reason he decided to call it a day.

The octogenarian would leave his position a grateful man thanks to the overwhelming support accorded to him by his tribe throughout his tenure.

“I think I conducted myself very well throughout my rein and particularly want to thank the Basubiya tribe for their unwavering support,” he said.

His son, Lawrence, expressed happiness and was more than ready to take over the chieftainship baton from his father.

He said arrangements were already underway with his employer to ensure his smooth exit from the public service.

Chobe District commissioner, Ms Sekgabo Makgosa, said she advised the tribal secretary in the area to make arrangements to Lawrence’s name to the Ministry of Local Government and

Rural Development for consideration to ensure a seamless and successful transition. Ends
