Ministry appreciates employees

15 Mar 2020

Employees in the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security have been commended for serving their customers with diligence despite the limited resources.

Speaking at the ministry’s awards in Gaborone recently, Minister Lefoko Moagi appreciated the impact and hard work displayed by the employees and encouraged them to continue with the good work.

He said appreciating employees should be the cornerstone of the ministry as this guaranteed best performance and commitment from employees.

Mr Moagi said research had shown that performance-based incentives could positively impact the public sector performance.

He said results incentives should be clearly marked to very clear measurable targets to capture the desired outcomes, adding that this should be done with utmost care to avoid shifting efforts away from other important tasks.

Minister Lefoko said Botswana had, through the prudent use of natural resources, graduated from low into the middle-income economy, hence it was important to focus more on human capital.

He revealed that the ministry was implementing programmes that would ensure sound economic returns from mineral resources, climate change and reduction of emissions through the use of green technology.

Mr Lefoko said the ministry’s strategic plan of 2018-23 encouraged the culture of innovation, creativity and commitment, adding that  employees who had made significant strides in reaching these goals must be recognised and appreciated.

He urged those who were not receiving anything not to despair, saying their time would come. Minister Lefoko implored employees to work hard going forward to reach new heights, saying they would meet challenges and therefore there was a need to find ways of dealing with them.

Earlier on when welcoming the guests, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Mr Mmetla Masire said it was important for everyone in the ministry to improve the way they do business to meet the demands of their customers. Around 87 employees and five teams were rewarded for the sterling job they did over the past year. ENDS
