Ministry approves career path

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has approved a Competency Based Career Path (CBCP), aimed at improving the conditions of service for clerk assistants.

Answering a question in Parliament on March 12, assistant minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Sethabelo Modukanele said the CBCP that was approved in March last year, mapped out a clear career progression structure for the clerk assistants.

The CBCP, he said, upgraded the position of clerk assistants from B5/B3 to senior clerk assistant B3/2 with effect from March 01, 2019.

He said the cadre would now be able to progress to D2 level, depending on whether they hold the right qualification that is a degree qualification in the relevant field.

Furthermore, he said, his ministry trained 112 clerk assistants at IDM, for certificate in Public Administration, adding that an additional 92 clerk assistants were currently at Botswana Open University for a Diploma course in Human Resources Development, and were expected to complete in July.

“This is done to enhance their performance and progression. My ministry will continue to upskill tribal administration staff to provide them with requisite skills to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness,” he said.

Ghanzi South legislator, Mr Motsamai Motsamai had wanted to know what was being done currently to improve the terms and conditions of service for Customary Court Clerks. Ends
