Bullies found in the public service have been advised to stop their intimidating tendencies.
Balete paramount chief, Kgosi Mosadi said this during a public service employees meeting addressed by the Director of Public Service Management (DPSM), Ms Goitseone Mosalakatane in Ramotswa on Wednesday.
Kgosi Mosadi said bullying should never find a place in the workplace.
She encouraged staff to find ways of solving their issues and avoid confrontation, which led to bullying.
She stressed the need for mutual respect between seniors and their juniors in order to have peace in the working environment.
Furthermore, Kgosi Mosadi encouraged public service employees to work hard because they were key to the country’s development agenda.
Despite the challenges that the employees faced at their workplaces, they should not be deterred from performing, she said.
Ms Moselakatane regretted that the country’s global competitiveness continued to decline. Therefore, she encouraged officers to double their efforts to facilitate the country to reach its aspirations.
She said Botswana aspired to be a high income country by 2036, but that could only happen if her growth rate surpassed eight per cent on average.
Ms Mosalakatane said President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi wanted an appealing public service, which would offer nothing but the best service, .
She regretted that the country was known for good policies and programmes, but struggled with implementation.
Ms Moselakatane encouraged staff to come up with ideas of moving the country forward, adding that Botswana could no longer rely heavily on minerals.
Ms Moselakatane encouraged officers to buy into the government’s agenda of tapping into the fourth industrial revolution to develop the country.
Among the concerns raised by public officers were shortage of staff accommodation and transport, unpaid overtime, the need for long term training and slow progression. Ends
