11 Mar 2020
Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Minerals, Green Technology and Energy Security, Mr Mmetla Masire, says corporate bodies need to constantly change and adapt to the ever evolving environment.
Speaking at Debswana 2024 strategy and new purpose launch in Jwaneng on Tuesday, Mr Masire said the strategy showed that Debswana was indicating its readiness to face future challenges.
He said Debswana had been a vital catalyst of the county’s development journey.
“Even in the face of the most profound challenges, there are still so many dreams to be realised. The Debswana 2024 strategy therefore intends to ensure that the company continues to make it possible for every Motswana to live their dream,” he said.
Mr Masire also hailed the diamond mining industry for being a key part of the country’s economy as well as being crucial to its prosperity, stability and security, whether in creating jobs or stimulating business.
He said there was need for the company to constantly find strategies to deliver in a more efficient way, especially in this era of uncertain economic environment.
Mr Masire indicated that because companies could not wish away challenges brought about by evolution, the only way was to adapt.
He said through the pillars of the 2024 strategy, Debswana aimed at realising achievements such as driving change and transformation, optimising diamond resource to extend the lifespan of its mines and finding value in collaborating with different stakeholders to find opportunities to explore new business areas, among others.
“In a nutshell, the key strategy intents of Debswana 2024 strategy are meant to step up change in our mining operations; deploy technology-driven improvements in operation efficiency and productivity, successfully execute large projects in order to create and extend lives for our mines; as well as development of a capable, skilled and purpose driven workforce to meet the organisation’s requirements of current and future operations,” he said.
Mr Masire also expressed confidence that the innovation, ambition and hard work of Debswana would ensure that the company meets challenges of the future and emerges stronger than ever as a force in the country’s socio-economic development journey. ends
