10 Mar 2020
Resources permitting, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development will consider the upgrading of Mmathubudukwane Service Centre to a Sub-district along with others.
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele said Mmathubudukwane request was among others such as Mmadinare and Nata.
Mr Modukanele said Mmathubudukwane was approved as head quarters of Kgatleng East Sub-district through Presidential Directive CAB 21(B) 2008.
The directive stipulated that “The establishment of additional sub-districts and administration authorities be approved in principle, and that the actual implementation of the programme be on phased and prioritised basis over the life of NDP 10 and possibly, other future national development plans,” he said.
Currently, Mmathubudukwane operates as a service centre, he added.
He also explained that section 7 of the Local Government Act of 2012 empowers him to establish subordinate authorities, by order published in the Gazette, subject to consultation with the respective council and the community of the area where such is placed.
Mr Modukanele was responding to a question from the Member of Parliament for Mochudi East, Mr Mabuse Pule, who wanted the assistant minister to state if he had any considerations of developing Mmathubudukwane to a fully-fledged sub-district and if so, how far was the development. ENDS
