Gerald Estate’s All Stars Football Club in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for Bobonong Mr Taolo Lucas and the residents of Gerald Estate have embarked on a five kilometre walk to raise funds for the renovation of Ms Lebogang Zebra’s house.

In 2019, the house of Ms Zebra caught fire from a candle left burning while she was away at a church service.

Speaking at the end of the walk held on March 7 in Francistown, the MP, who was also the chief walker, applauded residents of Gerald Estate for maintaining the spirit of caring and compassion.

Mr Lucas also appealed to citizens not to rely on government for help at all times, adding that as a community, it was possible to make a positive change in the lives of others without government involvement.

Mr Lucas, who donated P2 000 further commended the Gerald Estate Football Club for giving back to the community while urging them to be transparent through the whole process of accomplishing the project.

The Club president Mr Thabo Nyambe said it was not easy to ignore the state in which the beneficiary was living after the house caught fire, therefore he saw it fit to come up with a way to change her situation.

Mr Nyambe said he was impressed by how the community was willing to help, saying some donations and pledges had been made by individuals and committees.

“I am hopeful that in the next coming months the project will be complete as much as more people will be lending a helping hand with any contribution they can,” he said.

Mr Nyambe challenged residents of Gerald Estate to form a committee that would work for towards enhancing the lives of people in Gerald who are in need.

For her part, Ms Zebra thanked all those who were taking part in making a change in her life by raising funds to renovate her house, adding that this would provide a safe habitable place for her and family. ENDS
