Ghanaian Consulate celebrates independence

Ghanaian Consulate in Gaborone held a special day of celebrations on Friday to honor Ghana’s 63 years of independence and consolidation of gains.
In her address, Ghana ambassador to Botswana and Namibia, Ms Elizabeth Forgor, enchoed Ghana’s founding father, Mr Kwame Nkrumah’s words that the country’s independence was meaningless unless it was linked with the total liberation of Africa.
She said Ghana had remained a beacon of democracy across its five successive elections despite regional conflicts, which she said, were a noteworthy display of the prosperity for the country.
Ms Forgor said Ghana had accomplished a lot since its independence and achieved sound macroeconomic and governance fundamentals, which were a major source of pride for the gold rich state.
She noted that as a country rich in pan-Africanism, the prosperity lay on its foundations of socio cultural ties with the rest of the region, including friendships with countries such as Botswana, whose democracy were the impetus for sustained bilateral friendships and sustained trade and cultural exchanges. Ambassador Forgor noted that high profile visits of statesmen between Botswana and Ghana had continued to leave a lasting legacy of friendship.
She described the exchange programmes in education and security including different trade mechanisms as some of the instruments, which had strengthened the bond of friendship between the two states.
Ms Forgor expressed hope that a Ghana diplomatic mission would be established in the country soon to further advance the socio economic and cultural exchanges between the two states, which she said were fundamental to the economic growth of both countries.
She also outlined a variety of strategies whose gain was to open Ghana to rest of the world, adding that Ghana would continue to find ways to enrich its socio and macro-economic fundamentals to ease out inefficiencies and provide impetus for domestic and foreign investments in Ghana.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Kabo Morwaeng expressed best wishes for Ghana’s continued peace and security. He said Ghana was a good example of sound governance institution led organisations, which should be emulated across the world.
Minister Morwaeng noted that cooperation between the two states had grown considerably covering many respects.
He further said more needed to be done, underscoring the milestones achieved in availing teacher training institutions of Batswana in Ghana, which he said had yielded positive results.
He further said the promotion of people to people interactions between the two countries had strengthened the solidarity between the two nationalities, leading to heightened democratic fundamentals in the region. Ends
