Agora Club Botswana (ACB) recently donated Palesa Pads, which are washable sanitary towels through an international service project, #KeepAGirlChildInSchool, at Naledi Senior Secondary School.

Speaking at the handover, ceremony, former Agora Club Botswana president Ms Khurshida Khan said the #KeepAGirlChildInSchool is a project that aims to help teenage girls who stay away from school due to their menstrual cycle, as some cannot afford pads.

“In Africa many teenage girls stay away from school every month because of their menstrual cycle, sadly some use leaves and newspaper and other stuff that is harmful and leak through, staining their clothes and turning them into laughing stocks.

As a result of being absent from school for so long monthly, they are unable to cope with the pressures and they eventually drop out,” she said.

She further said to avoid this unfair situation, Agora Club International suggested they handed the girls with user friendly Palesa pads which can last for five years, allowing them to go to school and give them the opportunity to succeed in life.

Ms Keletso Zwane, a member of Agora Club South Africa, demonstrated to the girls how to use the pads.

She said the package comes with pads of different sizes and purposes.

She said Palesa Reusable Pads do not contain harmful chemicals, therefore reduced chances of getting cervical cancer, while preventing unpleasant odors.

The pads can be worn for 12 hours, are environmentally friendly and one has fewer menstrual cramps, infections and skin rashes when using them.

She also said they can easily be washed and hanged for good hygiene and could be easily folded, have a micro fiber absorbent core, full waterproof layer, quick absorbing lining and a stain-resistant stay dry top layer. ENDS
