Tirelo Setshaba Participants in Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) have embarked on a project to build a house for a needy family in Selokolela.
Speaking during a press conference addressed by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC) in Kanye on Tuesday, Southern District Coordinator, Ms Minkie Bokole hailed the gesture, saying it would impact positively on the lives of the needy family.
She said as custodians of the transformation agenda they coordinated several programmes citing sport, arts, culture and entrepreneurship, thus they had pondered over how best they could assist those in need.
Ms Bokole shared that due to the fact that Tirelo Sechaba Participants had a role to play in the transformation agenda, 560 participants pledged P30 each towards building a house for a needy family in Selokolela.
The house is estimated to cost around P120 000 and therefore implored capable individuals and companies to assist in the project. In an effort to raise funds and hype the mood MYSC will on Friday host a beauty pageant at Seepapitso Senior Secondary School scheduled to kick-start at 4pm, where individuals and companies will be accorded an opportunity to pledge towards the project.
Southern District’s chief social and economic development officer, Ms Kehumile Mabote said it was imperative for those willing to assist to contact their office first to ensure deserving people got assistance.
She said government was doing everything it could to uplift the quality of life for Batswana and called on those who could afford to assist in building a prosperous nation.
For her part, a Tirelo Sechaba participant, Ms Thabang Selotlego said they were inspired by the Vision 2036 pillar of ‘Human and Social Development’ to come up with the project that sought to ensure health and wellness, children’s wellbeing, strong family institution as well as social inclusion and equality, among others.
She said they had opened an account at ABSA Bank where pledges in the form of money could be deposited at account: 1127261.
She said building materials were also accepted whereby one could liaise with the nearest MYSC office to make a pledge.
Ms Selotlego implored Batswana to partake in the project as it took the youth away from streets, thus thwarting ill-meted activities.
For his word, Kgosi Keorapetse Legabala of Selokolela commended the Tirelo Sechaba participants for undertaking such a project and challenged all participants across the country to emulate the ones in KAA region for a better Botswana.
Kgosi Legabala was of the view that the project would edify MYSC, thus cementing their relevance to the needs of the nation. ENDS
