Preservation of culture vital

St Kizito Secondary school pupils have been urged to embrace their culture as such does not help only preserve it but increase learners social interaction and new relationship development.
Speaking during the school’s cultural day themed: My Culture my Pride at Gerald over the weekend, Father Slawomir Wiecek of Catholic Diocese of Francistown said that one’s culture was important hence deserved to be celebrated.
He said the pupils should know that before becoming Christians, people had their roots and said those roots needs to be guarded jealously, adding that a tree without roots cannot stand.
Father Slawomir said while the learners were afforded better education that did not mean that they should not forget their origins.
“Do not shun your past, lets embrace our cultural diversity found in our school,” said the Polish celebrant.
He said while engaging in their respective cultural activities some were likely to realise their gifts and possible career opportunities.
He said, ‘It was important to know who you are and should be concerned by declining culture.’
Father Slawomir said interacting with people from different backgrounds was part of learning.
The event attendants were treated to a variety of traditional cuisine from the various tribes found in the school.
Attendants were treated to local dishes such as delele, mophane worms, lebelebele amongst others.
The attendants were also treated tasty Polish dumplings.
Nigerian treats did not disappoint with the event patrons treated to the jellof rice, obono soup.
Apart from the delights, St Kizito traditional dance, drama, marimba wowed the crowd with their breath taking performances.
The mood climaxed when the school’s Hosana group took the stage.
They sent some attendants down the memory-lane with their electrifying dance moves. ENDs
