Lucara Botswana Sustainability coordinator, Ms Lettie Selawe has implored the Boteti Sub district Health Management team (DHMT) employees to work hard to ensure health benefits to the community.

Ms Selawe said this at the DHMT annual achievement awards ceremony held at Makumutu Campsite near Orapa recently where she complemented the awardees for their efforts and hard work.

Ms Selawe encouraged them to work as a team because such would result in good results hence the Setswana sayings, moroto wa o esi ga o ele, and setshwarwa ke ntsa pedi ga se thata.

She also said performance awards were meant to reward and motivate employees to excel, reduce employee and employer conflicts among other things.

Ms Selawe noted that poor performance, negative attitudes, lack of motivation and lack of a sense of urgency could be cured with proper performance measures.

She stated that quality workers were attracted to an organisation where they felt their ability, efforts and competencies were rewarded.

Ms Selawe said workers needed to be praised and granted an opportunity for advancement by encouraging them to be the best.

DHMT head, Dr Tegegne Solomon said the performance rewards were in their third year and the intention was to hold them annually.

He said the awards recognised staff at district level because the ministerial ones benefited only a few.

Dr Solomon also said the awards motivated, rewarded, recognised the performance and boosted the morale of employees, pushing them to satisfy customers. ENDS
