Chobe Land Board holds charity fundraising dinner

03 Mar 2020

The Chobe Land Board held a charity dinner to raise funds for Kachikau Special Unit which is housed at Kachikau Primary School.

The project was completed in October 2008 and started operating January 2009, complete with a hostel that has a holding capacity of 30.

Its enrolment currently stands at 21 (12boys and 9 girls) selected from 10 primary schools in the district.

Speaking at the event, Chobe Land Board chairman, Mr Johane Chenjekwa said the dinner was organised to give back to the community and benefit children with mixed disabilities.

“It is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as Chobe Land Board, to give these children hope. The more we give, the more we receive. Peace and love are the most important rewards,” stated Mr Chenjekwa.

He said everyone had a responsibility to assist the less privileged members of the society.

The money raised would be used to buy stationery for the children.

Chobe Marina Safaris has been supporting Kachikau Special Unit since 2013 through the Adopt-A-School initiative and has pledged to continue until end of the year.

It has assisted with donations, re-painting the premises and annual Christmas parties.

The school was built by Chobe District Council with the objective to provide special education and accommodation for mentally challenged students in the district and across the country.

This need was also influenced by the distance of the Chobe District from neighbouring towns and villages which offer special education services. ENDS
