South East District Council (SEDC) staff has been urged to commit to serving the constituents and the country diligently.
The plea was made by the council chairperson Mr Oshima Peloewetse during the SEDC headquarters staff excellence awards at Tashy’s Royal Gardens at Boatle on Thursday.
He said the district had, among others, vulnerable groups such as youth, destitute persons and elders, who were reliant on the district for a better service, hence each staff members should serve knowing that their service impacted on the life of constituents.
Mr Peloewetse told the staff that their genuine efforts in serving the public was the greatest resource that the country needed to spring back to greater heights.
Therefore, he stressed the need for them to work together for the development of the district, stating that each team player must acquire necessary skills and competence in order to contribute meaningfully to the team.
Author and personal development coach, Mr Mompoloki Makwana urged council staff to attach value to amount of time they spent at work.
He encouraged them to develop themselves and add value to their work, hence increasing their chances of higher remuneration and recognition.
He told the staff that excellence was a personal choice and they ought to choose to perform their given tasks. “You must make a decision of making excellence and productivity part of your daily work,” he added.
He encouraged the staff to take responsibility of their performance results and desists from blaming others and circumstances for their under performance.
Mr Makwana said every opportunity for turnaround in performance started with owning results and choosing to do better next time.
He regretted that most employees took time not performing to their level best on their current positions, yet they expected to be lifted to the next level.
He implored employees to stop limiting themselves, but instead put excellence in everything they do in order to be among the best.
Deputy council secretary, Mr Nigel Mangoye, said other than celebrating performers, the event was meant to allow staff to mingle. ENDS
