Heavyweights clash in last 16
02 Mar 2020
Premier league heavyweights, Orapa United and Gaborone United, will square off in the last 16 of the Orange FA cup next weekend.
The mouthwatering draw was conducted yesterday and also pitted Police XI against Prisons XI while Notwane will face BDF XI.
Orapa United faces a daunting task as they tackle Township Rollers on Saturday in the finals of the Mascom Top 8 in Francistown before facing Gaborone United who seem to have found their winning formula under the leadership of Pontso Moloi as head coach.
Following their historic victory against the much-supported Extension Gunners in the previous round, Letlhakane based Diamond Chiefs hopes to continue their winning streak as they will battle it out with Debswana South log leaders, Masitaoka.
Mochudi Rovers will play host to Jwaneng Galaxy while Sua Flamingos will face off with Township Rollers in what could be dubbed ‘David versus Goliath.’
Both Galaxy and Rollers should, however, not bask on their premier leagues status as there are no minnows in cup games.
The final fixture of the draw has pitted Broadhurst United against fellow first division compatriots, Calendar Stars, in what could be a too close to call encounter as both teams are currently experiencing a roller coaster ride in their respective leagues.
Speaking during the draw, FA Cup tournament director, Setete Phuthego said the tournament would continue with its culture of giving ‘smaller’ teams the opportunity to host high ranked teams, adding that televised games would, however, be moved to suitable grounds. ENDs
