Ipelegeng progressing well in southern region

Ipelegeng Programme is reportedly progressing well in the southern region.
Speaking during the Southern District Disaster Management Committee meeting in Kanye on Thursday, regional Ipelegeng Programme coordinator Mr Odirile Mongwaketse said the region had been allocated P75. 4 million for the 2019/20 financial year, out of which to date only P68m had been disbursed while expenditure stood at P57.3 million by end of January.
He said the region’s monthly employment quota had been revised from 7 494 to 8 077 for the financial year.
Pointing out that the report included Jwaneng and Lobatse, Mr Mongwaketse said the cumulative employment status as at January 31 stood at 80 383 against a target of 80 770 owing to under employment at Jwaneng.
Out of the total complement, 54 169 were women while 26 214 were men, he said.
Mr Mongwaketse said 26 392 were youth made up of 16 567 females and 9 825 males constituting 49 per cent of beneficiaries under the age of 35.
He said 5 487 beneficiaries, 4 334 females and 1 153 males were Green Scorpions.
He disclosed that expenditure for the sustenance initiative of the programme amounted to P11.7 million as at January 2020. Mr Mongwaketse said 454 small entrepreneurs consisting of 357 females and 97 males had been engaged for the last quarter of 2019/20 financial year.
Among the challenges encountered, Mr Mongwaketse mentioned limited resources, late delivery of materials and failure by suppliers to execute deliveries.
He said counter measures such as liaising with other departments to augment the limited resources had been put in place.
Non-performing contractors were also monitored and terminated, he said. Ends
