Well taken wellness journey leads to healthy living

Boteti Sub-district AIDS coordinator, Mr Ketlaantshang Monyadiwa, has encouraged employees of the Department of Building and Engineering Services (DBES) to change their lifestyle.
Mr Monyadiwa said this during a recent Letlhakane health fair and wellness day, noting that a healthy lifestyle was not an event but a journey of changing one’s way of living or behaviour.
He said wellness day was a time for people to come together with a common purpose of attaining better lifestyle habits through engaging in various wellness activities.
Mr Monyadiwa also said wellness depended on one’s attitude, that is, how one approached life and the way in which one coped with the events of life.
He noted that surveys had indicated that in Botswana many indulged in risky behaviors and the four common ones were alcohol consumption, smoking of any kind, unhealthy diet and lack of exercise.
These, he said, predisposed them to non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases and all cancers.
Mr Monyadiwa said a healthy lifestyle left one fit and energetic, with reduced risk of disease, meaning that one could then enjoy life without spending lot of money on medical expenses.
He said a healthy lifestyle started at individual level, and that it was an individual’s responsibility to take care of their health.
During the event, staff built a kgotla and lelwapa where they will meet to discuss issues related to their social welfare. They also inaugurated kgosi and mmakgosi who will be attending to staff matters. ENDS
