Mourners remember Metsimotlhabe councillors legacy

 Multitute of mourners among them Botswana Democratic Party members, thronged Metsimotlhabe to pay their last respect to the late Councillor Andrew Sebobi on Saturday.


The 44-year-old councillor died on the wee hours of February 24 at Kopong while driving with two female friends who escaped with minor injuries, after he lost control of the vehicle leading to overturning.

Speakers among them Minister of Defence Justice and Security Mr Kagiso Mmusi described Mr Sebobi as a unifier and a team leader who contributed immensely to the development of youth in Metsimotlhabe with active participation in various sporting and social activities.
Mr Mmusi, who is also the MP for Gabane/Mmankgodi, challenged democrats at Metsimotlhabe to scrutinize carefully his successor who would fit well into his shoes.
Deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Col. Duke Masilo appreciated that the late Mr Sebobi lived a life worth living using his precious time to make a difference in the lives of many, not only in the sporting fraternity, but also supporting local schools to improve the academic performance.
Meanwhile, Ms Pauline Sebobi, the late councillor’s sister assured mourners about her commitment towards ensuring that his brother’s legacy would be remembered.
“It is my wish to have my brother’s dreams realised and I promise to ensure that the Andrew Sebobi foundation becomes a reality to touch lives of the vulnerable segment of the community in his own village.
He might be dead, but his soul will always be remembered as he had bigger plans for his people,” said Ms Sebobi.
Cllr Sebobi was further described by almost everyone as a life changing character, a straight talker who served Metsimotlhabe community with integrity and fairness.
He served as Metsimotlhabe councillor under Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub-council after winning the 2019 general elections.
Botswana Democratic Party regional chairperson for Kweneng East, Major Driver Motlokwa, also described Mr Sebobi as a true representative of the people.
Cllr Sebobi, a former army member from 1993 until he called it a day in 2001, joined the BDP in 2010, where he actively served in the Metsimotlhabe branch as committee chairperson until he emerged victorious as Metsimotlhabe coucillor.
The deceased is survived by a 12-year-old daughter, six siblings, four sisters and two bothers. ENDS
