Molepolole Administrative Authority (MAA) council chairperson Mr Allen Jacob says he is aware of the deplorable state of bitumen roads in the sub-district most of which have reached their lives span.
Speaking at the official opening of MAA sub-district council on Monday, Mr Jacob said it was regrettable that roads continued to develop portholes despite frequent maintenance.
He said inadequate funding impacted efforts to arrest the problem.
“The maintenance carried out by our road division is not enough.”
The meeting was also briefed of high cases of children negligence and other social ills reportedly rampant in the sub-district.
The situation, the chairman stated, required joint efforts among community members and other stakeholders.
He further said in an effort to expedite land allocation in the sub-district that had been a thorny issue, council was working towards the design of 10 layouts plans for 10 villages aimed to facilitate sustainable land use management.
MAA sub-council chairperson stated that the sub-district was challenged by poor state of infrastructure such as staff houses and other public facilities with roads mostly affected.
He further indicated that inadequate resources impacted on MAA efforts of collection and disposal of refuse, posing environmental risk in the process. He also informed councillors that plans were underway to start the implementation of the new Matimela Act where impounded livestock would only be kept for three months with daily payment of P15 and P8 for cattle and small stock respectively from the previous P2.50 and P150 for same.
Presenting the sub-district’s development committee report, Ms Vivian Maphane, MAA district officer development reported stalled development of the BHC project of 100 houses in an 18 haectare plot due to water shortage in Molepolole.
Some of the concerns raised in the report was negligence of social safety nets projects by beneficiaries, defeating government’s effort of economic empowerment. ENDS
