Chairperson of Kweneng region constituency games says Molepolole is ready to host the national constituency games this coming weekend.
Speaking in an interview, Tshenolo Nshayi said preparations were at 95 per cent to host the 32 teams set to compete over the weekend.
Eight regions with about 560 participants will converge at Molepolole Sports Complex on Saturday for the opening ceremony.
Nshayi said champions in football, netball and volleyball would be crowned at a ceremony scheduled for Lemepe Lodge on Sunday, and that the local leadership was expected to grace both events.
He stated that grounds, accommodation and teams were ready for the sporting extravaganza.
There will be activation programmes on Thursday and Friday in all the three shopping centres at Molepolole.
Nshayi hailed the games, adding that they were pleased to host games of that magnitude.
“It is such a big achievement for us because it takes time to host the games. That is why we are well prepared.”
He said hosting the games would benefit the community in numerous ways as locals would be able to provide casual labour and boosting small businesses from selling food to spectators.
Nshayi highlighted that since the inception of the tournament, it has grown in leaps and bounds in terms of participation by out of school youth. Furthermore, he said there has been a lot of good that has come out of the games.
The chairperson noted that some youth have been able to set up their own small businesses with proceeds from the tournament.
He added that some have bought taxis, combis and even managed to buy livestock to earn a living.
The champions from all the three sporting codes will walk away with P9 900.
Second and third position winners will pocket P7 700 and P4 000 respectively.
Last year the games were held in Letlhakane. ENDS
