Molepolole Sub-council bemoans poor infrastructure

26 Feb 2020

Molepolole Administrative Authority (MAA) Sub-district councillors have called for a holistic approach to infrastructural development.

Commenting on the sub-council chairman’s opening speech on February 25, councillors, among them Botokanyana Motoroko, argued that facilities such as public officers’ accommodation, roads and school facilities needed to be attended to as they had the potential to affect service delivery and academic performance in the district.

Cllr Motoroko cited Motswakhumo and Matsheng junior secondary schools in Lentsweletau and Sojwe as well as Makgasane primary as some of the facilities that were extremely appalling.

He said it was disheartening for councillors to be constantly singing the same song over the status of government facilities with no remedial action.

The situation, he said, was bad in junior secondary schools, where there was no privacy at hostels as they had no window panes and doors.

He said the prevailing state had the potential to impact on the academic performance as the school and work environment were not conducive.

“Let us first have improved school facilities before we can  expect miracles to happen in our schools,” advised Lephepe/Loologane Cllr Elizaberth Kelotlegile.

Cllr Grace Lejage of Sojwe was of the view that the situation at Matsheng JSS needed to be attended to urgently as it had prevailed for quite a long time.

Gakuto Cllr, Mathata Selaledi, echoed the sentiments, decrying the poor roads, especially the Gakuto link road from the Metsimothabe-Kopong main road.

He said the road needed to be closed as it was a hazard to road users.

Cllr Selaledi also decried the poor lighting quality tower lights installed in their respective wards, arguing that they did not serve the purpose for which they were intended.

Borakalalo Cllr,  Shabir Kablay applauded  Kweneng District Council for encouraging the utilisation of Molepolole Bus Terminus for district activities, with the hope of reviving economic activities for informal sector operators around the facility.

He advised on the importance of consultation when projects of such a magnitude were being carried out to avoid situations where a facility would be abandoned before it could be used.

Mogokotswane Councillor, Andrew Selwe called on Molepolole Sub-land Board to expedite plot allocations for the newly established Masugankwe and Motswasele wards to facilitate developments.

He indicated that delays in plot allocation drastically affected delivery of services by the newly appointed dikgosi, as they arbitrate cases in open spaces.

Cllr Oabona Thebeetsile appealed for consideration of Ipelegeng payment to be made at designated places to reduce congestion at Molepolole post offices. ends
