BoFiNet north zone softball league launches

25 Feb 2020

BoFiNet is committed to the development of sports, particularly softball, which has been included in Olympic competitions.

BoFiNet public relations manager, Lesego Goitsemang said this during the north zone BoFiNet softball league launch at Itekeng Softball Ground in Orapa on Saturday.

She said the launch marked the second year of a three-year partnership between BoFiNet and Botswana Softball Association that commenced in 2014-2015. She said BoFiNet was to see the league producing players who could compete in the international arena.

Goitsemang noted that a lot of progress had been made in the development of softball since 2014. The sponsorship commenced with P1 million and more teams joined the league. In 2016 the sponsorship was increased to P1 650 million due to growth in the sport, which she said was testament that softball had grown in the last five years.

Gotsemang said they were proud of the strides made by all stakeholders. She noted that BoFiNet sponsored an exceptional player in 2019 in Kunyalala Samuel, and that he did not only emerge as an outstanding athlete, but also as a promising talent.

Debswana representative, Rebatho Nyenye said their wish was to see the league and softball be instituted on the pillars of team spirit, discipline and fair play because the pillars were critical in ensuring the right appetite was kindled on those who wished to join the sport.

Softball, he said, was the most cherished sport in the country and excited both players and spectators. Orapa, he noted, had two softball teams being Carats and Rebels’ softball clubs.

Meanwhile, during the launch Carats men’s team won against Sua Raiders’ men with 12-0 whilst Carats ladies team won against Sua Raiders ladies’ team. ENDS
