KDC pays tribute to late councillor

Kweneng District Council (KDC) leadership led by the council chairperson Mr Motlhophi Leo has on Monday paid tribute to the family of the late Botswana Democratic Party councillor for Metsimotlhabe Mr Andrew Sebobi, who died in a car accident in the wee hours of Sunday morning at Kopong. 

The councillor, who died aged 44, met his demise after a car he was driving lost control and hit a tree. 

Mogoditshane Police Station commander Superintendent Russ Letsebe confirmed that the accident happened between 12 midnight and 1am on Sunday. 

He also stated that the accident involved three other passengers. 

Two passengers sustained minor injuries while one female passenger sustained injuries on the right arm and was rushed to Bokamoso Private Hospital where she has been treated and discharged. He stated that while investigations were ongoing as to what might have caused the accident, it was alleged that the driver was trying to avoid some donkeys on the road when he ultimately lost control of the car and hit a nearby tree. He said Mr Sebobi was confirmed dead on the spot. 

Mogoditshane/Thamaga Sub-council chairperson Mr Ofentse Mafoko confirmed in an interview that there would be a BDP memorial service today at the Sebobi family home in Metsimotlhabe in the afternoon while the Kweneng District Council will have a memorial service planned for tomorrow  at 11am at Mogoditshane Senior Secondary school. 

Meanwhile, a Mochudi man aged 54 has also died on Monday in an accident involving five other males who were spotted driving a Mini High Ace combi heading to Lephepe. 

Sojwe station commander Superintendent Kitsiso Lemogang comfirmed in a telephonic interview that all the victims hailed from Bontleng in Gaborone. 

He futher said that the combi overturned, killing one while five were seriously injured. 

Their ages range between 35 and 54s. It is reported that the victims are recuperating at Scotish Livingstone Memorial Hospital in Molepolole. ends
