25 Feb 2020
There is no major cyclic maintenance for Shashe River School in the eleventh National Development Plan (NDP 11), Parliament heard Monday.
Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja said Shashe River School had major maintenance under Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) in the 2015/2016 financial year at a cost of P29 million.
The cost, she said covered refurbishment of kitchen facilities, science laboratories, other specialised rooms and all mechanical and electrical installations.
She added that the school was also allocated P1m in 2018/2019 and P100 000 in 2019/2020 for minor maintenance.
Further, she explained that Tonota College of Education did not fall under the basic education ministry but the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science Research and Technology, hence she was not in position to answer a question about the college.
However, she said the ministry would assist Shashe River School with funds for minor maintenance in the next financial year.
The assistant minister was responding to a question from Member of Parliament for Tonota, Mr Pono Moatlhodi.
Mr Moatlhodi wanted to know if there were any plans for maintenance and renovations at Shashe River School as well as Tonota College of Education arguing that most buildings were dilapidated. Ends
