Segotso gives back to former school

St. Patrick’s Primary School alumnae, Ms Mareledi Segotso, donated P9 600 worth of gifts to the best overall performer of Class of 2019 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) and the school management, as a token of appreciation.
Handing over the donation in Mahalapye recently, Ms Segotso, who finished at the school in 2016, said she found it fit to remember her former school. The gifts included three trophies; one for the school, one for the best male achiever and one for the best female achiever, as well as P2 500 cash each.
The best teacher and the head teacher also got one tablet phone each. She encouraged parents to partake in their children’s welfare and education, as parental role was key in achieving desires results.
She urged the St. Patrick’s Class of 2020 to continue doing well and to be motivated in their studies to maintain the school’s good results.
“I understand that there are some of you who are faced by challenges at home, but it is very important to forget all what is happening back home, and focus in achieving big when you enter the school gates,” she motivated both students and teachers.
At primary level, she noted, girls performed better than boys, but expressed concern that girls tended to lose focus at junior school, urging them to be in control of their lives and do what was best for their future.
Furthermore, Ms Segotso urged girls to refrain from all bad acts, by resisting peer pressure and avoiding the use of drugs, encouraging them to make informed decisions such as knowing what they wanted and standing firm on their principles.
The school head teacher, Ms Gloria Monnayoo, said the school was currently overstaffed with 25 teachers for 684 learners.
She said there was one teacher without a class, adding that the school was experiencing a high number of transfers of pupils out of school ‘for reasons known by the parents.’
However, Ms Monnayoo expressed delight that teachers worked tirelessly to ensure the school did not perform under the 50 per cent pass rate.
The best female achiever and best PSLE overall achiever of the school, Ms Kefilwe Morapedi, thanked the school management for the support they gave.
She also thanked Ms Segotso for acknowledging their efforts.
“We promise to uphold the dignity of the name of the school, and we shall continue to do our best,” said Ms Morapedi.
Mr Larona Phuthego, the best male achiever, also appreciated Ms Segotso for rewarding them for their good performance.
He encouraged the Class of 2020 to study hard. ends
