Selibe Phikwe youth group walks for recreational facility

A Motswana entrepreneur has mobilised a team of young people from Selebi Phikwe dubbed Walking 4 Change Group, to engage in a sponsored walk and cleaning up campaign.
In a bid to assist the vulnerable members of the society by raising funds for the construction of a recreational facility at Joseph Anderson Primary School that is suitable for their special needs,
Walking 4 Change Group was scheduled to leave for Gaborone from Selebi Phikwe February 24.
The journey will see them go via Serule, Tonota, Francistown, Letlhakane, Orapa, Serowe, Palapye, Mahalapye, Rasesa, Mochudi, Phakalane and are expected to arrive in Gaborone after a month or two.
The team comprises of two young Batswana from Selebi Phikwel; Tshaorayi Samero popularly known in Selebi Phikwe as “Banana 4 Life” and Tshepo Selefo.
Mr Samero, who is founder and team leader, said he felt compelled to give back to the community of Selebi Phikwe, as it had always supported him in his business endeavours.
He said the campaign was thus, a way to show his appreciation.
Mr Samero said he was aware of the challenge the government faced relating to the provision of services for people with disabilities and the destitute, adding that he felt it was his patriotic responsibility to meet the government half way in this shortcoming.
He said that different departments, organisations and businesses had bought into his idea, citing the support in the form of donations and resources.
A few companies who have pledged to support the initiative included Back to School Store, Tswana Dream Investment, Water Utilities Corporation, Crackit Tuition Services, Discovery, Fresh 2 Go, and Kedimotse Travelling Tours.
Mr Samero revealed that some influential and prominent figures like MP for Tonota, Mr Pono Moatlhodi, Mr Moeteledi Marumo of Maswibilili Butchery had pledged to support the initiative and pleaded with the public, businesses, political figures and all stakeholders to come on board.
Mr Samero said he was optimistic that everything would fall into place, adding that the team planned to engage in clean up campaigns in some villages including Tonota, Borolong, Mokubilo, Letlhakane, Serowe, Radisele, Artesia and Palla Road enroute to Gaborone. ends
