Lucara donates to Letlhakane community

General Manager of Lucara Botswana Mr Johane Mchive says the mine’s aim is to invest on sustainable development.
He said this at the official launch of an outdoor gym worth P190 000 donated by Lucara Botswana to Letlhakane community on Friday, indicating that good health was essential to sustainable development and the 2030 agenda.
He stated that the aim was to play a significant role in reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer, among others.
Mr Mchive noted that nine million deaths took place world-wide before the age of 60 due to non-communicable disease, highlighting that physical activity through training was essential for good health, and when done regularly it could reduce the risk of attracting non-communicable diseases.
He indicated that non-communicable diseases were usually caused by genetic or lifestyle factors, which accounted for almost two-thirds of all deaths globally, with 80 per cent of these occurring in low- and middle-income countries.
Four killer diseases in Africa, he said, were Bronchitis, Pneumonia, AIDS, heart disease and diabetes. Area councillor Ms Ngongorego Khutsafalo hailed the outdoor gym, saying it was a development that would contribute immensely in enhancing good health among members of the community.
She noted that the gym location was ideally placed as it would boost the business of vendors operating at the bus rank. Kgosi Ewetsemang Retlhatloleng said regular exerciseg enhanced good health, as such, Lucara Botswana had made a life-saving investment towards the community of Letlhakane. ENDs
