Re-elected secretary of the Mothers Union of the Dutch Reformed Church in  Botswana (DRCB) has expressed pleasure at her team’s generosity, she says assists the church to continue to play its role of promoting the spirit of Botho in the society.

This, Ms Thathana Modise said, was evidenced by the church’s Mochudi circuit’s in donation to the less privileged members of the society.

Ms Modise, who was speaking at a donation event Mochudi recently, said the church had always been at the forefront of such activities in the Kgatleng district and leading by example.

“The women of this church are testimony that indeed women are the pillars of our society.

We started donating to the needy at Boseja ward,” she said.

She indicated that uplifting less fortunate people had been the church’s mantra and they took cue from former president, who urged people to always give to those less fortunate.

Ms Modise said it was not the government’s sole responsibility to help the needy, but for everyone who had the power to change people’s lives.

She said it was heartwarming to see women taking charge and she applauded DRCB for a job well done by donating whole-heartedly.

“People need to donate out of free will and with a loving heart.

The little that you have donated today will go a long way in making a huge difference in someone else’s life,” she said.

DRCB donated blankets and toiletries to beneficiaries identified at Phaphane ward.

Ms Modise said as women of the church, they had pledged to donate and help out in society as much as they could.

She said being a Christian did not mean anything without good deeds.

“A Christian is seen by the work that they do in their community and not just by pronouncing that one is a Christian and goes to church,” she said.

Ms Modise pleaded with other believers in faith to help out needy people in their communities, saying such had to be done voluntarily and out of love.

“Let us use our faith and help our President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, who has highlighted Botho as one of his pillars in moving this country forward.

We need to play our part as the church, and in everything we do, God has to be involved,” she said.

Following a three-day annual conference of the DRCB mothers union, the women of faith donated to the needy as a way of showing love towards their fellow beings. ENDS
