State executes convict

Botswana Prisons Services has confirmed hanging Mmika Mpe, 29 of Tlhwareng Ward in Werda village in the Kgalagadi District on Saturday morning.
A death penalty was meted on Mpe for the murder of his employer Reinette Vorster of Ghanzi at Okwa Valley farms in Ghanzi on January 30, 2014.
In a press release, prisons explains that Mpe was convicted by the High Court of Botswana on May 18, 2018.
He was also sentenced to one year in prison for abduction, 10 years for robbery with violence, five years for theft of a motor vehicle and three years for malicious damage to property.
His appeal against conviction and sentence was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on February 08 this year. ENDs
