University refurbishes SOS home

Botswana Open University (BOU), formerly BOCODOL, recently handed over a refurbished house to SOS Children’s Village in Tlokweng.
The house was refurbished as part of the university’s corporate social responsibility; under which it had adopted one of the families at the Tlokweng Centre.
The University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor for Corporate Services, Ms Lesedi Lesetedi, noted the relationship between BOU and SOS Tlokweng started in 2014.
She said over the years, the university staff used their hard earned money to sustain the relationship, adding that BOU was committed to sustaining the relationship.
The SOS National Director, Mr Motshwari Kitso thanked BOU for the support, especially during a time when donors were scarce.
He said the need for SOS services continue to grow daily as more children were abandoned, needing suitable homes.
He further said the problem was exacerbated by incidents of child trafficking, adding that SOS cared for children from all nations.
Mr Kitso said as part of integrating the children, SOS had started to have its families live among the community, so that the children were not secluded hence discriminated.
He added that already seven homes were living within the community, with the future plan being to integrate SOS villages into the community. He pleaded with the community to accept SOS children.
He called on the community to support SOS as they needed volunteers across all spheres of life. Kgosi Steven Korwe commended BOU for its efforts, saying that time had come for locals to stop thinking only foreign donors could sustain non-governmental organisations.
He said SOS had an important role to play in the community, hence it would be unfortunate for it to close due to lack of donors. ENDs
