Top achievers inspire Bobirwa learners to soar
20 Feb 2020
Scores of junior certificate examination top performers descended on Sefophe Junior Secondary School to inspire a culture of high performance and excellence by peer education.
The JCE high flyers toured all the junior schools under Bobirwa Sub-region to hold talks with pupils on how best to prepare for the ultimate big win at the end of their junior school journey.
In doing so, the formers junior school learners facilitated by authorities from Ministry of Basic Education through Bobirwa Sub-region took turns to inspire dreams led by steadfastly focusing on the desired end result.
Bobirwa Sub-region produced 20 As and a Merit in the 2019 JCE results. The workshop was held under theme: See them. Meet them. Ask them, aimed at encouraging pupils to motivate others to work hard and to be driven to do more through peer education
Principal education officer, Mr Moemedi Gosalamang set the stage by narrating an analogy of focusing on producing exceptional results by tapping on a tale of water ducks and their friend turtle, followed by the top achievers who shone as they served their juniors with stories of success.
Mr Gosalamang narrated that once upon a time there were two water ducks and their friend turtle. The trio lived in a dam which ultimately dried. The ducks sought a dam with water since they could fly and upon getting one they then hatched a plan to assist their friend turtle to reach the new abode. However, the first warned their friend against losing focus.
The ducks brought a crossbar which each one of them held at either side with their mouths and placed turtle in the middle. When flying past a village boys and girls shouted and mocked the turtle which could not fly. The turtle was seemingly fed up and sought to respond and thereby lost grip of the crossbar and crashed to death.
To this, Mr Gosalamang told pupils that focus was imperative in yielding outstanding JCE results. He urged pupils to not to lose focus on reaching for the skies.
One of the JCE top performers from Tsetsebjwe Junior School, Thulani Dube challenged Sefophe JSS pupils to bear ambitions within themselves.
She said that with an ambition comes a burning desire for greatness.
For learners to receive sponsorships to renowned institutions like Maruapula Secondary School, they must first hone their ambitions, nurture them and then let them be a light towards their everyday learning, the former Tsetsebjwe JSS learner advised.
The learner who dreams of being a neuro scientist advised the Sefophe JSS pupils to shun negative influence and desist from friends who seek to divert them from their focus.
To achieve that, she said, pupils must dedicate their all to learning and persevere.
Another top performer, Malcolm James formerly with Bobirwa JSS told pupils that self-organisation was critical in learning. He said that one could not be disciplined whilst being disorganized.
Like other excellent performers, Malcolm talked against a bad company and even tapped on the saying that, ‘show me your friends and I will tell you what you are’ to emphasise the need for a good flock towards production of a decent academic yield.
He found that the behvaiour of the friends one keeps would ultimately manifests in him or her and hence the need to examine a company that one keeps.
The young man implored learners to spurn worthless, illegal and time consuming activities like graffiti and vandalism of school property.
Earlier on Mr Etlhomilwe Raditshego, on behalf of the school head poured words of appreciation on the initiative saying it would go a long way in motivating learners to reach for the skies.
He said that by garnering top grades, the JCE ‘champions’ demonstrated they could compete at national level. ENDs
