Serowe Administrative Authority to implement 108 projects

Serowe Sub-council plans to implement 108 Ipelegeng projects in 14 villages.

Presenting a report for 2019/2020 as at January end 2020 during the sub-council meeting on Tuesday, Ipelegeng coordinator, Mr Otisitswe Keatholetswe said 84 of the said projects were purely labour intensive inclusive of debushing of roads in and around villages, litter picking, road sweeping along internal roads, grass cutting in all government and civic facilities.

Twenty-two are technical projects, which include three construction, 10 maintenance, eight fencing and one desilting.

He told councillors that the planned programme budget for the financial year 2019/20 was about P28 million with about P25 million already disbursed.

He stated that expenditure stood at around P19 million, noting that P5 million for the year 2018/19 were released to cover for the increased quota of 255 in supplementary funds.

Previous projects which were dropped due to lack of funds and pending spill over projects stood at about P3 million.

Mr Keatholetswe indicated that 30 060 beneficiaries were engaged in the programme for the month of January 2020, 19 787 of whom were females and 10 278 males. Youth account for 14 509.

Green Scorpions engaged 1 411 females and 317 males.

Mr Keatholetswe stated that most of the villages had met their monthly quota and that had improved the livelihoods of the beneficiaries.

Concerning the sustenance initiative, he said the initiative engaged 1 239 suppliers for the month of January, of whom 904 were females and 335 males.

He said the meal comprised diphaphatha or fat cakes, bogobe, dinawa and samp and a glass of 250ml drink.

Mr Keatholetswe decried shortage of personnel, delays in releasing funds, plots that do not have certificates as some of the challenges they face.

Water Utilities Corporation and Botswana Power Corporation late connections Mr Keatholetswe said also contribute to delays. ENDS
