Extension Gunners veteran defender, Katlego ‘Finkie’ Mothibi has recovered from a broken leg and could return to action before the season ends.
The loyal player, who has been with ‘Mapantsula’ for 16 years, suffered a broken shin bone when he challenged for the ball against Gilport Lions young defender Lone Taele in September last year in the second match of the current campaign.
Gunners lost the encounter 2-1 at UB Stadium and Mothibi has been out of action for the past five months.
The 35-year-old fullback has now recovered, and according to Gunners head coach Wame Mokoke, was itching to return to action.
“Finkie has responded well to treatment and he wants to start training,” Mokoke said on Wednesday in an interview.
However, the coach said while the player was eager to start training, the technical team would monitor the issue carefully due to the nature of injury Mothibi suffered.
“We will look at the medical report from the doctor he has been consulting. We do not want to rush him back. But he is walking freely and wants to start training with the team,” said the coach.
Mothibi broke into the Gunners team in the 2004/05 season and has been a mainstay in the right-back position over and helped the team win the Coca Cola Cup in 2011. Gunners have mostly used youngster Obusitswe Gabadise in the right-back position this season.
