Teamwork paramount to service delivery

19 Feb 2020

Chairperson of the Palapye Sub-Council, Ms Khumoyame Lekoko has called on councillors to do their best and work as team to bring socio-economic development to the sub-district.

Officially opening the Palapye Administrative Authority (PAA) full council meeting on February 17, Ms Lekoko said team work was paramount to achieve the objectives of the sub-council.

She explained that councillors had the responsibility to advocate for developments and uplift the lives of communities. She thus urged them to do their best to realise the expectations of their electorates.

“I implore you councillors that as we convene for this session, which also marks the first lap of our 2019-2024 political term, let us give it the best of our ability in terms of commitment and apply ourselves fully, as we deliberate on the council business before us,” she said.

Ms Lekoko urged councillors to be exemplary by displaying maximum discipline and high morale to the communities they serve. She said as leadership, the council must also be committed to community work.

She noted that government still faced financial challenges hence it was imperative for the sub-district to exercise prudent financial management and also come up with new ways to widen its revenue base.

“I want to implore you also to be vigilant in implementing sound monitoring and evaluation processes, which can help us identify, track and manage projects and programmes efficiently and effectively,” she said.

She said council should influence the corporate world to exercise their corporate social responsibility to benefit society.

“Our corporate relations should heighten the level of both youth and women in terms of business and employment opportunities,” she said.

Ms Lekoko also touched on the issue of women and children’s rights and Gender Based Violence (GBV), which she said she condemned as it violates the dreams of both women and children.

She said she would champion the move to protect women and children, adding that women were very important in society and needed to be protected and mentored to be the best.

On other issues, Ms Lekoko said following last year’s elections, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) was conducting post-election activities in various parts of the country and called on councillors to assist in promoting voter education. ENDs
