Police officers could be deployed at any location - Mmusi
19 Feb 2020
Botswana Police Service analyses and identifies emerging crime trends on a daily basis hence officers can be deployed at any location to tackle a prevailing crime trend without compromising on the level of safety where such officers may be drawn from.
Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Kagiso Mmusi told Parliament that the method of deployment was used across the country and was not unique to Botswana Police Service.
He cited the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security as one of the ministry’s that employs the same technique during outbreaks such as Foot and Mouth Disease.
“Currently this arrangement has not in any way adversely compromised security, lives and property in Tonota constituency, as the station continues to adequately cater for its policing area,” said the minister.
Minister Mmusi further added that normal policing in the area was augmented by Special Support Group officers based in the village.
Member of Parliament for Tonota, Mr Pono Moatlhodi had asked the minister to confirm whether it was true that the police in Tonota had been instructed that a bigger number of police officers got transported to Francistown daily at night to execute their police responsibilities at different areas in Francistown leaving security, lives and property at Tonota constituency highly compromised.
He also wanted to known about the measures that were in place to remedy the situation. ENDS
