Ministry recieved 8 476 applications

Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Dr Edwin Dikoloti says 8 476 Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development (LIMID) applications were received in Mahalapye Sub-district since inception of the programme.

Dr Dikoloti said out of that number only 5 477 were approved, adding that from that number 1 812  applications were from Mahalapye West constituency.

He said challenges encountered during the implementation process in the sub-district varied, adding that the common and prevalent challenges included stock theft, low commitment from some of the beneficiaries, double dipping where beneficiaries benefited from other empowerment programmes and shortage of smallstock.

In response to challenges, he said his ministry had undertaken to address the challenges through strengthening monitoring of the programme implementation, engagement of the leadership in the district to assist in curbing crime related to the implementation of the programme, train beneficiaries on the best management practices of their acquired small stock.

He said other responses to challenges was to review the LIMID programme and increase the prices for small stock which activated the market.

Mahalapye West Member of Parliament, Mr David Tshere had asked the minister to state how many Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development (LIMID) applications had been received in Mahalapye Sub-district since inception of the programme.

He also wanted to know how many of those were approved, and of the approved, how many were from Mahalapye West constituency, and what were the challenges and proposed remedies. ENDS
