Council secures plot for bus rank shopping mall

Mahalapye Sub-district Council has secured an eight hectare plot on the southern side of Mahalapye, along A1, for the construction of a new bus rank and a shopping mall.
This was revealed by the sub-district council chairperson, Mr Banthasetse Merementsi when delivering his opening speech during the first council meeting, on Monday.
Mr Merementsi said the council had decided to explore a Public Private Partnership for the development, since the Mahalapye bus rank had not been approved and funded under the current District Development Plan 8 (2016 - 2023).
“An Expression of Interest for the development will be advertised, as soon as the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development gives us the green light,” he said.
Furthermore, the council chairperson expressed delight that a ten-year lease agreement for the development, operation and maintenance of the council owned Moko Recreational Park, along A1 highway next to Watershed Mall, was also signed in September 2019.
The park, Mr Merementsi said, had been leased to Letlole La Rona Limited, who were the owners of the Watershed Mall.
He said the first phase of the park’s developments began in December 2019 and was expected to be completed by April 2020, revealing that the park was expected to be opened to the public immediately after completion of its first phase.
He further informed councillors that physical planning had concluded the street naming exercise for Dibete and Pallaroad internal roads, in September 2019. This street naming exercise, he said would be carried out until all major roads, in the sub-district, had been named by various communities. ENDs
