Naledi Senior Secondary School recognises Top Achievers

Naledi Senior Secondary School has recognized four of its pupils who made it in the national top 10 achievers during the 2019 BGSCE examinations.
Speaking during the award ceremony at the school in Gaborone on Monday, the acting chief education officer for the Southern region Mr Moji Rampete said learners’ exceptional performance was a testament to hard work by both the pupils and the teachers.
He encouraged the learners to continue working hard in all their endeavours and make the right career choices that would contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
He further encouraged the class of 2020, to work hard to emulate and exceed the class of 2019 in order to be able to explore opportunities in a saturated job market.
Mr Rampete added that the four achievers would be given the highest provisions by the government in order to continue their studies at some of the top institutions in the world.
The Headmaster of the School Mr Othusitse Othusitse said the top achievement status attained by the learners was a very important milestone in the trajectory towards a knowledge-based economy.
He also expressed excitement that the school had produced the best overall performer in the country with 8 A*, a success which he said was a result of the culture of hard work inherent within the pupil.
Mr Othusitse recognised the four achievers being Sharma Bernard who obtained 8 A*, Danish Galebotswe with 7A*, Uvesh Ibrahim with 6 A* and Gofiwa Kgabi with 6 A*.
He appreciated the hard work demonstrated by the learners, noting that in the past the school produced one top achiever.
Mr Othusitse also encouraged the upcoming class to work hard and grow the reputation of the school beyond what the other classes had produced.
He further thanked the parents of the top achievers for the support to their children which he said had greatly influenced the success of the candidates.
Meanwhile, the valedictorian who performed best overall in the country, Sharma Bernard, acknowledged the recognition that the school gave them.
Sharma said he was shocked that he had performed excellently noting that he had not done well in his form 3 exams.
He described that his senior schooling had been characterised by hard work and dedication which with the support of teaching staff.
Sharma also said he took up 11 subjects despite the curriculum prescription of 8, which he said was because he wanted to give himself a lot of skills avenues.
He also encouraged 2020 candidates to continue working hard in their academics in order to perform beyond their expected targets.
“Focus is a necessary ingredient if you want to achieve success in life and you have to press towards the goal you set for yourself in order to go further.
He also challenged the upcoming class of 2020 to realise that sleep was secondary, saying sleep had to come second to dreams.
The school Parents Teachers Association gave the top achievers cash ranging from P1 000 to P1 500. ENDs
