Councillors advised to consult

18 Feb 2020

Mabutsane Sub- district councillors have been encouraged to visit government offices to get answers for their concerns as this would help them avoid making too much enquiries during sub-council sittings

Speaking at the first session of the sub-district forum on February 17, the sub-council chairperson, Mr Kgopolo Ramosesane said when councillors had shared their concerns during council sittings, they would focus on bringing in and discussing motions, make recommendations and take resolutions.

He also challenged the councillors to familiarise themselves with instruments that govern council proceedings such as Acts, Bye Laws, regulations and policies.

He said such would make life easier for them as it would help them focus their debates on critical issues and make proper resolutions.

On other issues, Mr Ramosesane indicated that government’s budget was constrained in providing all the required resources, which he said then required optimal utilisation of the little resources they had.

He said since reliance on government revenue support grant was not ideal, the sub-council needed to focus on finding new sources of revenue.

“I would like to emphasise on the national policy priorities that the government has embarked on and calling on all stakeholders to drive them. These four critical priorities are; promotion of export-led growth, building human capital, ensuring more efficient government spending and financing, and provision of appropriate infrastructure,” he said.

He said the council had a critical and complementary role to play in driving the local economic development, and that it was essential that they created an environment that would attract and retain private sector business activities in the area and create jobs and ultimately, improve the standard of living for the local communities.

Mr Ramosesane also informed the councillors that the sub-council managed to complete some major primary school maintenance at Sese, Samane, Maokane, Tsonyane and Mokhomma while others were in progress.

He said that other school projects that were being done through donor funding such as the second primary school at Sese by Debswana Jwaneng mine, classroom porta cabins at Kanaku through Desert Bush Walk proceeds were going well. ENDs
