Churches to tell Metlobo story

17 Feb 2020

Pentecostal and Evangelical churches will gather in camp at Metlobo from February 28 to March 1 to mark the village’s 62 years of existance.

A press release from the Evangelical Fellowship of Botswana states that the gathering will be a history punctuated with the resolve and unwavering faith of a handful of men and women who were banished from Bangwaketse capital of Kanye for their non-confirmatory faith.

“This was a defining moment for the faithful as they either had to stand by what they believed in or succumb to the pressure of the establishment who thought that the new faith was too radical for social cohesion and a threat to traditional practices that the tribe had held in high regard from time immemorial,” states the release.

However, in absolute allegiance to their God, that motley crew of the faithful chose expulsion over conformity. Kgosi Bathoen II allowed them to settle just over 60km South of Kanye.

Equipped only with their faith, a great deal of determination, and having left their livestock, loved ones and all they could have valued back home, these Christian men and women built a community that quickly thrived.

That community came to be known as Metlobo, meaning abundance.

In celebrating the history of the village, the release states that the church will also be recognising the heritage that the men and women who built Metlobo left for the Christian community.

It will also be a celebration of their zeal and unfazed allegiance to the faith, and a call to the Christian community to go back to the ‘cross roads’.

The event will be hosted by the seed of Gratitude Foundation in partnership with the Evangelical Fellowship of Botswana. ENDS
