Serenity Rehabilitation centre opens

17 Feb 2020

The opening of Serenity Rehabilitation Centre in Tlokweng has been described as a huge step in reducing the amount of money spent to send patients for rehabilitation outside the country.

Speaking at the opening of the centre recently, Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund customer services manager, Ms Mpule Ditirwa commended the centre owners saying their efforts also contributed to enhancing quality of life for those in need of rehabilitation services.

Resident doctor, Dr Malebogo Mosau-Rannowane said the centre assisted people to get back their full potential to living a normal life. She thus encouraged those involved to accommodate their patients, saying they counted on them to get their lives back to normalcy.

She emphasised the need to adopt a lifestyle that would reduce chances of getting non-communicable diseases (NCDs) which she said complicated health problems and may lead to death.

However, she indicated that Botswana was doing well in managing diseases such as HIV/AIDS, hence the need to use the same strategy to address NCDs.

Dr Mosau-Rannowane said for the centre to achieve its mandate, there was need for collaboration  between caregivers and patients.

The centre’s operations director, Ms Morwadi Mosenki said the need to have private rehabilitation centres could not be over emphasised because Botswana was exporting jobs by sending patients to other countries. The centre offers supportive care to chronically ill patients, elderly, counselling services, therapeutic care, recreational services and home based care among others. ENDs
