 Mayor of Gaborone, Mr Father Maphongo and council staff embarked on a clean city campaign at the Central Business District area recently.

The first clean city activity was intended to build hype and sensitisation towards the big launch where the President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi is expected to officiate. Mr Maphongo said clean city was meant to run a massive clean-up campaign thereafter on a monthly basis in which all residents would partake in.

“Since Gaborone is a point of contact to the international world, it is important for this city to be kept clean at all times for it to be attractive to investors as well as tourists,” he said.

The clean up activity did not only focus on litter picking but vegetation control, street sweeping, removal and collection of abandoned structures and collection of rubble and concrete.

Mayor Maphongo further urged Gaborone residents and stakeholders to take part in the campaign. He also appealed for pledges as the campaign entailed concerted effort that involved all. ENDS
