Mini-stadium progress impressive

13 Feb 2020

The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mr Tumiso Rakgare, on Tuesday visited a site where Moshupa mini stadium is being constructed.

Speaking in an interview after touring the site, Mr Rakgare said he was pleased that substantial progress had been made.

He expressed confidence that the project would be delivered by end of March.

The youth minister said he was impressed that the P6.5 million project was split between several contractors, including three young women.

This, he said, was a commitment to citizen empowerment.

Mr Rakgare explained that his ministry was charged with the construction of a race track, kiosk, basketball, volleyball and netball courts as well as football pitch.

He, however, encouraged contractors to have safety in mind during the construction phase and ensure the project catered for emergency situations l.

Area MP, Mr Karabo Gare, urged contractors to pick up speed and finish the project within time and budget, adding that the project was conceptualised in 2018.

He expressed joy that it would give many young people a platform to showcase talents and develop social entrepreneurship in the process.

Project manager, Mr Thapo Ebineng, confirmed that the project would be completed by end of March.

He explained that delays stemmed from the fact that the initial plot was smaller and detached from health facilities, so the project had to be moved to a bigger plot.

Subsequently, he explained that the initial schedule for the completion of the project was revised from September 2019 to end of next month.

Meanwhile the project manager said it was not easy for him to manage the project since he doubled as a physical planner.

Mr Ebineng advised that managing government projects required a dedicated officer rather than someone who juggled between other jobs.

Some contractors among them Mr Mooketsa Bajammeo, Ms Lebogang Kenosi, Ms Peggy Mokwakwa were also confident they would deliver the project on time. ENDs
