Clash of the titans
13 Feb 2020
A titanic battle is expected when Debswana First Division South (DFDS) log leaders, Masitaoka and Mogoditshane Fighters take to the field in Mogoditshane on Saturday.
Masitaoka is perched at the top of the log with 32 points followed by Mogoditshane Fighters with 30 points.
Sparks are expected to fly as both teams aim to gain automatic promotion to the elite league at the end of the season.
Molepolole-based Masitaoka, who campaigned in the second division last season, have occupied the top spot for some time and are a surprise package in the division having bought the Black Peril status in the league to become a first division outfit.
The team will come into the encounter a bruised side after suffering a loss at the hands of Jwaneng Fighters last weekend.
Despite the loss, the Molepolole-based outfit retained the top spot with a two point margin.
They know that if they perform lackadaisical, they will play second fiddle to Fighters and have a tough task of taking part in the play-offs.
Majatlhaga, as Masitaoka is affectionately called, failed to get promotion from the second division last season, and they bought the Black Peril status in the first division. They seem determined to join the elite league.
Their good run of form has seen them getting their die-hard supporters back to the grounds, and Saturday’s game, which one can say is a decider, will give the winning team the much needed confidence going forward.
On the other hand, Mogoditshane Fighters, alias Brazilians, have been blowing hot and cold but are a rejuvenated side.
They did themselves justice in their last outing by trouncing Matebejana 3-1 last weekend.
The win was a much needed morale booster going into the titanic clash.
Both sides still have at least seven games to play until the end of the season, and football pundits view the weekend clash as a decider for the league winner.
With their nearest rivals, Uniao Flamingo Santos and Mochudi Centre Chiefs at 23 points, it is up to the top two teams to manage their games well to ensure that come the end of the season, one of them is crowned winners.
Meanwhile, third placed Uniao Flamingo Santos will entertain Red Sparks at Gabane United grounds while the team that shares the same points with them, Centre Chiefs will play hosts to Matebejana at Eastern Pirates Grounds.
Jwaneng Fighters will welcome Ncojane, which is currently at the bottom of the log at Jwaneng City Council Stadium. All the games will be played on Saturday. ENDS
