People at the helm of football clubs should have passion and commitment, says former Botswana Darts Association spokesperson, Peter Sekgwama.

Sekgwama said this during a cultural dinner to raise funds for Bobonong second division football outfit, Stone Breakers on Saturday, August 31. He noted that clubs with truthful and loyal management were likely to enjoy success and have stable teams.

He emphasised the need for clubs to have sufficient funds in order to  compete successful. He urged those with skills and funds to volunteer their time and resources to help Stone Breakers to reach the highest national football level.

Sekgwama advised the management to run the affairs of the club in a transparent manner if they want to attract sponsors. He also advised players to be loyal, adding that discipline cannot be compromised in sport. The dinner raised more than P4 000 that was pledged by various individuals.

Team manager, Joseph Maphula commended the support they recieved from the Minister of Youth Sport and Culture, Shaw Kgathi, who is also the MP for Bobirwa.  The minister has donated training equipment to the club. Other donors were the chief executive officer of Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, Cross Kgosidiile and businessman, Lekgatlhanye Sanoto, who donated a kit to the club.

Maphula called for support from members of the community. Botswana Football Association’s national executive committee member, Basadi Akoonyatse pledged P1 000 to the club and warned them to abide by the rules of Botwana Football Association. She noted that some teams were last season disqualified from being members of the association because they did not pay affiliation fees.

He urged the management of Stone Breaker’s to ensure that they do not become victims. Kgosidiile pledged to donate a kit for this season while Bagwasi Bagwasi pledged P1 000. ENDS
